The Portage Terriers took a 2-0 series lead in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Turnbull Cup Final last night with a 3-0 shutout win over the Steinbach Pistons.

Portage's Captain Brad Bowles opened the scoring near the 10 minute mark of the first, increasing his point streak to 23 games. Steinbach had a bit of a pushback in the later half of the period, but couldn't find the equalizer.

In the second, Terriers' Braydon MacDonald scored on the powerplay to increase their lead to 2. Jeremy Leipsic and Chase Brakel picked up the assists on the play. The Pistons struggled getting out of their zone in the frame due to the offensive push of the dogs forecheckers.

Portage continued to dominate early into the third period, leading to a goal from Jeremy Leipsic to make it 3-0. The Pistons began to rally halfway through the period, but still couldn't get one past Terriers' goalie Nathan Park.

Park led the way for Portage in the victory, stopping all 27 shots he faced. Terriers Head Coach Blake Spiller felt it was a great 60 minutes from his club.

Nathan Park had a shutout in game 2. He stopped all 27 shots.

"I just thought it was a pretty solid effort from puck drop until the final buzzer. I thought we -- there was a couple -- at our level you're going to have mistakes, but I thought we had other guys covering up. So it was a good effort by us."

Spiller comments on Brad Bowles' performance over the last few months.

"Brad Bowles is the best player in the league, and it's not just me saying it either. So it's no surprise, as for the other streak (Wins at 30 dating back to the regular season) We've got two wins in this series and we're going to go for the third on Wednesday."

Game 3 is Wednesday night at the PCU Centre in Portage la Prairie. Puck drop is set for 7:30.
