The Portage Terriers hung on for a 4-2 victory last night over the visiting OCN Blizzard at the PCU Centre. It was the final meeting of the year between the clubs with the Terriers taking the season series 4 games to 2. It was the make-up game that had been originally scheduled for December 7th but had to be postponed because of the weather.

Portage looked solid early in the game and would take the lead on the power play with 5 minutes left to go in the first period. It only took 9 seconds of the man advantage before Chase Brakel cleaned up a rebound in front of the net for his team-leading 25th goal of the season.

Portage's own Jared Roy would continue the hot start for the Dogs early in the second frame. He one-timed a perfect pass from Ryan Sokoloski on the power play to give Portage a 2-0 lead. Roy would get his 2nd of the night and 4th of the season 4 minutes later when he snapped home a loose puck from the mid slot. Portage outshot the Blizzard 22-15 after 2.

OCN wouldn't go down without a fight. In the third period, Portage took 8 minor penalties, giving the Blizzard ample opportunity to tie the game. OCN notched 2 early on the power play from Brady Valiquette and Jeremy Dumont. Terrier defenseman Mackenzie Dwyer took a 4-minute high sticking penalty late in the period but the Blizzard weren't able to even the game at 3. James McIsaac would add the empty net goal for Portage to give them the 4-2 victory.

Brock Aiken made 24 saves in the win. Portage is now tied with the Blizzard for 4th in the MJHL but have 2 games in hand. The Dogs are back in action on Saturday when they host the Swan Valley Stampeders at 7:30 pm.
