The Portage Terriers split their home and home series with the Selkirk Steelers this weekend as they picked up the 7-2 victory last night at the PCU Centre. Portage corrected their slow start on Friday and opened the scoring one minute into the game; Brad Bowles tipped a point shot from Nick Henry between the legs of Brett Friesen. The Terriers would keep the early momentum going as Ryan Hendrix knocked home a juicy rebound in front of the net. Portage wouldn't be done there, as Nick Henry finished off a nice cross seam pass from Brad Bowles. Selkirk would get on the board before the end of the first period as Dallas Starodub tipped home a point shot on the power play.

Chase Brakel put home a loose puck in front of the net, finishing off the play started by Ryan Sokoloski early in the second to give Portage the 4-1 lead. Selkirk would draw to within two goals minutes later off a Dale Goodbrandson shot that went off the post and in. Before the end of the second period defenseman Cody Lightfoot scored his first of the season as his point shot found its way through traffic.

Once he got a taste for scoring Lightfoot was able to notch another, beating Friesen with a blast from the point in the third period. Cody Haiskanen scored a pretty goal before the end of the frame, as he walked in from the blue line and sniped it inside the far post.

The Terriers improve to 28-5-1 and remain first in the MJHL. They get set for their Tuesday matchup in Winkler.
