The Portage Terriers made it back-to-back wins with last night's 4-2 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders in MJHL hockey.

Swan Valley was the first one on the board in this one, scoring 8 minutes into the game to give them the 1-0 lead. Terriers' forward Ashton Clark would tie things at 1 a couple of minutes later, with Lane Taylor and Jeremy Leipsic picking up the assists on the play. It was a rough first period with 4 minor penalties awarded to the Stampeders and 2 for Portage, and neither team could capitalize with the extra man.

Things seemed to calm down a little in the second period, only 3 penalties were handed out, and 13 shots were recorded between the two teams. Swan Valley managed to take the lead though halfway through the period and would hold their 2-1 lead into the 3rd frame.

It didn't take the Terriers too long to find their legs in the third, resulting in the game-tying goal from forward Ryan Mignault. His linemate Brandon Stanley picked up the only assist on the goal. The Terriers kept the pedal down and would score a quick goal to take the lead just 2 minutes after Mignault's, Captain Adam Wowryk would get the dogs their first lead of the game. Chase Brakel and Jeremy Leipsic each picked up assists on the Wowryk goal. Swan Valley would push back toward the end of the period, but Jeremy Leipsic's empty net goal -- and third point of the night -- would seal the deal for the Terriers.

Portage goaltender Brock Aiken stopped 27 of 29 shots to get the win, and Head Coach Blake Spiller says it was a solid performance from their netminder. Terriers' defenseman Jordan Thomson continued his point streak with an assist on Leipsic's empty-netter, after his hat trick game against OCN. Leipsic (9) and Thomson (8) are the top scorers for the Terriers so far, and Leipsic's currently tied for first in the league with Steinbach's Landon Plett.

The Terriers next game is Friday in Selkirk.
