With their second Turnbull cup in a row, (their 6th in the last 9 years) in their rear view mirror the Portage Terriers now set their sights on the Western Canada Cup. The tournament will be held in Estevan Saskatchewan April 30th-May 8th. The Terriers were successfull at the WCC in Fort McMurray Alberta last year in a tournament that meant nothing to them, due to the fact that they were already guaranteed a berth in the RBC Cup.

In Fort McMurray the Terriers fell to the host Oil Barrons in their first game 3-1. Portage was able to rebound with a 6-3 win over Melfort. They then handed Penticton their first loss of the tournament in a close 3-2 affair, and beat Spruce Grove 4-2 to close out the round robin. The Terriers qualified for the 1 vs 2 final, where they fell in a close overtime game against Penticton 4-3. Portage then beat Melfort in the meaningless runner up game 4-2. Melfort still went to Portage for the RBC Cup as West Team 2 because Portage was the Host team.

Portage will look for similar results if not better this season as they head back to the tournament. The Melfort Mustangs (SJHL) are the only other returning team. The new faces include the West Kelowna Warriors (BCHL), the Brooks Bandits(AJHL), and the host Estevan Bruins.

Here is the complete schedule for Estevan. All Terrier games will be broadcast on CFRY. (all times are in MST)
