The Portage Terriers dropped an important two points last night in MJHL action as they fell 4-3 to the Selkirk Steelers. It was a back and forth physical affair with the Terriers out shooting Selkirk 36-26.

Jeremey Leipsic takes a shot on net.Ryan Sokoloski used his blazing speed on a breakaway in the first period to open the scoring for Portage. Minutes later Kain Stevenson got caught looking the wrong way and was run over by Shanan Mcfaden. The ensuing scrum led to a Selkirk power play which resulted in the first Steeler goal of the night. Nathan Halvorsen found the loose puck in the slot off a rebound. Portage would get more chances late in the period and would have a goal waved off.

The second period would continue to be physical and once again Portage jumped out to the lead. Josh Martin banged home a rebound at the side of the net. Selkirk responded just over a minute later with another power play goal. Martin would be ejected for fighting midway through the frame when he dropped the gloves with Ryan Gardiner. The Terriers would add one before the end of the second when Jeremey Leipsic scored on a breakaway.

The Terrier lead would be short lived as Jake Dudar fired home a beautiful one-timer to tie the game at 3 in the first five minutes of the third. The rough stuff would come to a head minutes later with a hit by Turner Santin. It drew a large crowd in the corner and resulted in Santin, Carter McMurdo and Brendan Kochanski all getting game misconducts for Portage, and Ryan Pruden for Selkirk. The Terriers would kill off the ensuing penalties but would surrender a goal to Carter Barley before the end of the third. The chances would continue to come for Portage but they couldn't beat Hayden Dola. Kurtis Chapman was saddled with the loss in net for Portage. The Terriers were 0-5 on the power play.
