The Portage Terriers needed a shootout to defeat the Waywayseecapo Wolverines last night in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The win extends the Terriers' win streak to 20 to close out their regular season.

The Wolverines struck first with a powerplay goal, which stood as the only one in the period. The Terriers looked sluggish in the first, as the hard working Wolverines won most of the 1-on-1 battles, and the races to the puck.

The second was all Portage, as they were able to net two, and take the lead. Terriers' Captain Brad Bowles scored first, followed by Braydon MacDonald's powerplay goal.

Again the Wolverines hard work paid off, as they took a 3-2 lead shortly into the final period. The dogs were able to tie things up though, as forward Jeremy Leipsic scored right off a face-off just 5 minutes later. Neither team could break the 3-3 tie, so an overtime period was played.

With extra time solving nothing, the players lined up for a shootout. Terriers' shooters Adam Wowryk and Braydon MacDonald were able to score in the shootout, while goalie Nathan Park didn't allow a goal.

Terriers' Head Coach Blake Spiller says it took a while for his club to get going.

"For the majority of the time our team works pretty hard, I just thought we didn't want to go to the tough areas as much and didn't want to battle through. It definitely wasn't our best effort, and coming into this one I thought it was going to be tough for us to get going and it was."

The Terriers finished the MJHL regular season in first place. They now await the lowest seeded winning team from the Survivor Series.
