The top two teams in the MJHL met last night with the Portage Terriers coming out on top 3-2. The Winkler Flyers jumped out of the gate catching the Terriers on some odd man rushes, but Nathan Park held down the fort. The Terriers would get chances of their own off the cycle, even having a goal waved off due to being kicked in, but no team could find the back of the net in the first.

Zak Hicks took a holding penalty at the end of the first period, which gave the Terriers 1:44 of power play time to start the second. They would only need 14 seconds of it though as Shawn Bowles fed his brother a perfect pass in front of the net and Brad Bowles shot it home. Penalty trouble would cost Portage later in the frame; with Brock Weston in the box for holding Thomas Mansbridge banged home a rebound at the side of the net to tie the game at 1. Before the period was over Brad Bowles would get his second of the night. A pass into the slot caught the back skate of a Winkler defensman careening into the net.

Much like the second period, a goal was scored in the first minute. 30 second in Lawson McDonald hit Kayden Jarvis with a cross seam pass and he slapped it past the diving goalie. Later in the period, after series of chances on the power play, Brett Orr sniped one just under the bar to give the Terriers the lead for the final time. Portage was able to kill off a 5 minute major to Turner Santin for a blow to the head later in the period and hung on for the victory.

AP call up Kyle Wiltshire

The Terriers were without forwards Nick Henry (Injury) and Michael Knaub (Suspension) so the Terriers had AP call up Kyle Wiltshire in the lineup. He spent time on a line with Brandon Stanley, and Turner Santin.

Portage is back in action tonight at the PCU Centre starting at 7:30 against the OCN Blizzard.
