The Terriers were able to hold on for the shootout victory over the Blues last night in MJHL action in Winnipeg.

The dogs took the lead in the first thanks to Tokato Cox's second as a Terrier, Chase Brakel and Nick Doyle picked up the assists on the play. They managed to hold off the Blues' attack for a 1-goal lead heading into the second. Kelby Picard and Blues' Brock Shwaluk were ejected halfway through the period for fighting.

The Terriers managed to continue their strong defensive play throughout the second period. Neither team would find the back of the net on 7 powerplay opportunities in the frame, 3 for the Terriers and 4 for Winnipeg. "We played some minutes where we were pretty good, and then we played some minutes where we were kind of running around in our own end a bit and not really paying the price or giving the second effort, to get the puck out of our zone," says Terriers' Assistant Coach Paul Harland.

It took 58 minutes for the Blues to finally get one passed Terriers' netminder Curtis Chapman, who stopped 46 of 47 shots on the night. Overtime solved nothing and the teams headed to their benches for a shootout.

Only one shooter was able to find the back of the net, Terriers' forward Chase Brakel. Chapman stopped all 3 Winnipeg shooters, Ty Enns and Jeremy Leipsic both failed at their shootout attempts.

"Chapman played really well, and the defensemen that we had in -- like they've been doing the last 4 or 5 games here -- they all played hard and made good plays, and battled really well," says Harland. "I thought our back-end was pretty good, especially Kelby Picard who's a forward playing on the back end. He had a fight for us."

Harland's hopeful Layne Toder will be able to play next week but says other than that the other guys they're just not sure on yet. Get the full stats from last night's game here. The Terriers next challenge is the Winkler Flyers at the PCU Centre Wednesday night.
