The Portage Terriers are off to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Semi Final. They swept Selkirk 4 games to 0 in their best-of-7 quarter final, winning Game four 9-3 last night in Selkirk.

The Terriers were down 1-0 early, as Selkirk opened the scoring just over a minute into the first. The Steelers' lead was short lived though, as Terriers' forward Jeremy Leipsic scored to even things at 1. Portage dominated the rest of the period, scoring two more goals in the process, one from defenseman Riley Thiessen, while Leipsic netted his second.

Portage's strong play carried into the second period, as they only allowed 3 shots in the period. Portage forwards Michael Knaub and Shawn Bowles both picked up goals in the frame.

It was a 5-1 lead for Portage heading into the 3rd, and they added 4 more before the end of the game. 2 from Ryan Hendrix, another from Shawn Bowles, and Ryan Sokoloski picked up his first of the playoffs. Selkirk slid two by Terriers' goalie Nathan Park in the third, but it wasn't enough to fuel a comeback.

13 different Terriers registered at least a point last night, and their 4th line was plus 4 overall. Terriers' Head Coach Blake Spiller comments on the fourth line's strong night.

"(Knaub, Hendrix, and Mackey) were real good for us here tonight, and I thought they got better here as the series went on, and everyone knows you need to have 4 lines that can play if you want to go any distance in the playoffs. I thought those guys did a real good job for us, especially in the past couple of games. Definitely good for our club going forward."

Portage will face the winner of the Virden and Winnipeg series, and Spiller knows whoever it is, it'll be a challenge.

"Both those teams are good clubs, real good clubs. Both have good guys up front, and capable goaltending, so they're teams that are well structured. We'll have to be better going forward, and whoever we get, is definitely going to be a challenge as every body knows."

Game 5 between Virden and Winnipeg is tonight in Virden. That series is tied at 2.
