The Portage Terriers shook up their mix in the crease, acquiring a goalie as part of two trades completed today.

The Terriers acquired the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) playing rights of 18-year-old netminder Kurtis Chapman from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Estevan Bruins in exchange for future considerations, the team announced today.

Chapman, an Airdrie, Alta., native, was recently released by the WHL's Regina Pats and had a brief two-game stint with Estevan posting a 3.39 GAA and .900 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound backstop played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the Olds Grizzlys during the 2015-16 season, and had a 4.49 GAA and .855 save percentage.

In a corresponding move, the Terriers also re-assigned goaltender Wesley Ellingsen, who was 2-1-0 with one shutout, a 3.84 GAA and .886 save percentage in five games this season.

“Obviously we started the year with two young guys that were real good in training camp and early in the year,” Terriers head coach/GM Blake Spiller says. “As a group we thought we might need some more experience.”

“We were hoping that the guys we had we're going to carry us through,” Spiller continues. “But Kurtis became available ... and he's definitely a guy who's got some experience.”

The Terriers also struck a deal with the SJHL's Nipawin Hawks, adding 18-year-old forward Josh Sielsky in exchange for future considerations.

Sielsky, of Maidstone, Sask., had no points in four games with Nipawin this season. Playing with the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League's Beardy's Blackhawks in 2015-16, the 5-foot-10, 161-pound forward recorded 44 points (23-21—44) in 36 games.

“He's biggest attribute is that he's scored at every level,” Spiller says. “We're hoping that he's going to come in and hopefully provide some offence for us.”
