The Manitoba Junior Hockey League's trade deadline was last night at 8, and teams across the league had to cut -- or could increase -- their final roster to 23.

The Portage Terriers only had 21 players as of Saturday evening, and made only one deal yesterday before the deadline. Terriers' General Manager and Head Coach Blake Spiller says it was a very strange year.

"There was a lot of talk going on, but it didn't seem like anybody -- even across the West -- was making too many deals. Everybody seemed to be looking to add, and nobody was looking to move. Guys that I've talked to -- I've been on the phone quite a bit the last couple of days -- everybody seemed to say the same thing as there doesn't really seem to be a whole lot of movement this year."

The only deal the Terriers made before the deadline was the acquiring of forward Jeremey Leipsic from the BCHL.

"Acquired Jeremy Leipsic from Powell River in the BCHL, a Winnipeg kid that we had listed. Started the year there, he was the leading scorer in the AAA Midget here last year. A smaller guy with good skill."

The right-handed forward is 5'8'', 150 pounds, and is from Winnipeg. He currently has 17 points in 34 games with the Powell River Kings.
