The MJHL is now on their Christmas Break, and the Portage Terriers can enjoy it as they sit in first place in the league with a 30-6-1 record and 61 points.

The Terriers were able to win both of their games over the weekend, despite missing half of their defense core. Terriers' Assistant Coach Paul Harland's pleased with how the team handled the adversity.

"I think the main thing was we were down 3 defensemen for the last 6 games -- and we ended up going 4-2 -- So we're happy with that. The guys are looking forward to a rest, we played the last couple of days with 4 defensemen so we're happy to get the couple of wins before the break. We're looking forward to having all of our guys back for the New Year's game."

The Terriers were able to squeak a 2-1 win over Neepawa to head into the break. Special Teams played a big role in the Terriers success that game, and Harland starts with their powerplay.

"It's been inconsistent, and in that rink we just wanted to get some more motion and shots on net. Then on the shorthanded goal by Brad (Bowles), he just dropped his shoulder and went wide -- had some good patience -- and found the empty side of the net. Big goal for us, to give us the win essentially and 2 points."

The Terriers are followed up by Winkler Flyers and Steinbach Pistons, as both are tied with 54 points in second place. The Virden Oil Capitals sit in 4th with 46, and the Winnipeg Blues are in 5th with 38.

The Terriers are off until December 31st when they host Winkler at the PCU Centre, catch that game on CFRY or Portage Online.
