The MJHL season is just around the corner and the Portage Terriers are holding training camp this weekend at the PCU Centre.

The rookies will be first at the PCU centre tonight, as they try to show why they deserve a spot on this year's club. The returning players will join the fray late in the day tomorrow for the main camp, with everything wrapping up Sunday night.

Terriers' head coach and GM Blake Spiller says losing defensemen like Dean Stewart and Brett Orr allows room for younger players. "We're going to have to try and bring in some young guys here, and give them an opportunity to show us what they've got."

The Terriers will also be without key pieces Brad and Shawn Bowles. Spiller will need to look for alternative options. "We've had to replace important parts each and every year, and we seem to find ways and guys that know what we expect out of them."

He feels the returning players will help a lot. "We definitely have guys returning that we are excited about having them come in for another year."

The Terriers will play their first exhibition game at the PCU Centre on Tuesday, September 6th against the Virden Oil Capitals.
