The Stonewall Motocross Club is looking to a have a national-quality track created in their community. This stems from certain members of the community wanting kids to stay out of public areas with their bikes. So, the club is partnering with the town to try and put this together. Secretary of the club Leanne Good gives more insight as to why they want to do this.

"We are driving to get a track up and running for next spring so we have something local for our own riders to either practice on, hold small meets, or invite other groups in to use the track," explains Good. "The Interlake actually doesn't have anything right now that is up and running. Our closest option is Grunthal with is about an hour and twenty minutes away from us."

The Motocross Club will be hosting a meeting July 28 to discuss more about their options and potential plans when it comes to building this track. Good says it will mainly be a public update of what they've found out and the obstacles they will have to work around. She describes some of the talking points.

"That night, we are going to be going over what motocross is all about," says Good. "A lot of people don't know what motocross is, as far as the organization. We will be going over financial concerns that we have as far as the track being created and keeping the track up and running."

Good says the interest is very high even from those that are outside of Stonewall, noting there aren't many tracks in Manitoba so riders from some places have been travelling very far to practice. She says this will help those riders as well as the ones in the community.

Good says they want this to be something the kids in the community can do throughout their childhood and beyond.

"The motocross community, if you're not involved in it as a family, it's typically just one of your family members that are riding. We want to turn this into a place where we can teach young riders how to ride safely and properly," says Good. "We want them to have a safe environment to learn. It's not just ditch riding, it's not just out in a gravel pit or anything like that. We want them to have this as a recreational sport as they grow up."

The meeting takes place July 28 at 7:30 at the Veterans Memorial Complex in Stonewall. Doors will be open at 6:30 and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
