The Stonewall Jets swept the Pembina Valley Twisters to capture the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League (MMJHL) Championship Wednesday night in Stonewall, after winning 4-2 in game four of the best-of-seven championship series.

The Jets hit their stride at the right time, capping off an eleven game playoff win streak with a sweep of the Twisters in the finals, to win their first MMJHL title.

Derek Walker and Eric Swanson scored first period goals for the home town Jets, while Chad Millar picked up the Twisters lone tally in the first.

Mackenzie Johnson potted the only goal of the second to increase Stonewall's lead to 3-1 after forty minutes of play.

Twisters goaltender Morgan Wall made 23 saves.

With the season on the line and down by a pair of goals, Pembina Valley put forth a strong effort in the third, and out shot the Jets 15-4. Colin Grenier brought the Twisters within one, but in a last minute attempt to tie the game Pembina Valley pulled their goalie and Scott Miskiewicz sealed the deal with his first of the playoffs.

Portage residents Robert Smith, Cody Reeves, and Adam Blight were all a part of the Jets' victory. Portage Terrier Chase Faulkner also was a member.
