The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League Regular Season kicks off with 4 games around Manitoba tonight.

The Portage Islanders open their season on the road against Notre Dame. The Islanders finished 11-9 last season and were eliminated in the semifinal by the eventual champions the Carman Beavers. General Manager Jeremy Brooks says they've used both import spots this year to bring in two former Terriers to bolster the line-up.

"We gained a lot of good talent this year. There's actually quite a few local guys that have left their other teams and have come to our organization. It's looking really good, we've got a deep team this year and we're looking to compete."

Brooks says they're going to be an offensive force again this season, and as long as their forwards can think defensively first, they'll be very successful this season.

The Stonewall Flyers are back in the SEMHL this season after a couple years off. They open their season in Stonewall tonight against last year's champs the Carman Beavers. Flyers' General Manager Jason Coopman's looking forward to the game.

"It's going to be a tough game. We've got a lot of new guys coming in this year, we're going to have to show a lot of speed."

The two other games include Winkler at Altona and Morden at Warren. All four games start at 8 p.m.
