The Santa Clara Baseball League announced their League Award winners before the Padres and Mavericks game earlier this week in Portage.

16-Year-Old Portage la Prairie Pitcher Brody Moffat picked up the Rookie of the Year award for his play with the Austin A's. Moffat says it wasn't something he was counting on winning.

"It's definitely unexpected. I kind of just wanted to come play to get some extra at-bats to stay sharp for triple-A ball. It's just completely unexpected, I never would've thought that I'd be getting this award."

Moffat and a few of his PCI Trojans' teammates were part of a young Austin A's crew this year. Moffat says it's a tough league to play in.

"It's definitely a lot better (than AAA), especially pitching. You got to hit your spots. If you don't hit your spots they're obviously going to hit a bomb off you, and I gave up my fair share but good thing they were just solo's."

Plumas Pirates' Pitcher Zac Yandeau picked up the League MVP Award for the 4th time in 5 years. He says it's nice to win the award, but credits his success to his teammates. Minnedosa Pitcher John Hutton won the Top Pitcher.
