The PCI Saints start their season as defending Provincial Champions today in Zone 4 High School fastpitch.

The Saints finished last season with an overall record of 29-1, with the only loss coming against Steinbach, who they beat 13-0 in the Championship Final. The Saints now look ahead to 2016 now, with their first match tonight against WC Miller Aces. PCI's Grade 11 pitcher Sarah Thomson's been a part of the team for 3 seasons now, and says they're almost the same team as last year's.

"It's looking pretty good. We lost our catcher last year, but we have some good ones that are going to play this year. So it's pretty exciting, I think we'll be pretty competitive again this year."

Saints Kassidy Cunningham's also a Grade 11, and plays several positions with the club including pitcher and fielder. She's excited to get the season started.

"I'm very excited for the season. I hope we can defend our title as champions last year," laughs Cunningham.

Thomson feels they'll be a force on the mound again this season.

"Definitely the pitching. We have Emily Smith and she's really good. Our outfielding is phenomenal, so that's great too."

The first pitch of the Saints' season is set for 4:15 in Altona.
