The PCI Saints won 6-3 over Oak Park in game one of their Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League Playoff yesterday at the BDO Centre.

The Saints finished the season in 6th place, pitting them up against 11th place Oak Park. The Saints came out strong in the first, and Meagan Inman netted her first of the night to give them a 1-0 lead. Oak Park kept things close though, and tied the game at 1 before the end of the period.

The Saints added 3 in the second period, one from Maddie Shwaluk, another from Katie McCartney, and Inman popped her second of the night. Oak Park managed 1 as well in the second, making it 4-2 for the 3rd.

Oak Park scored first -- cutting the Saints' lead to 1 -- but just a minute later, Bailey Grantham scored to regain their 2 goal lead. Shwaluk would add another goal under a minute later to seal the win. Saints' Head Coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie was pleased with their effort on the ice.

"That's something we talked about that we need, that consistent effort. I think that the girls know that. They know that when we're skating and doing things as a team, teams are going to struggle against us, but when we let off things go bad."

Game 2 between the Saints and Raiders is this afternoon. Saints' forward Maegan Inman opened the scoring last night and is excited for today's match.

"They're going to come out looking for a win. Again, probably going to be physical, so we're just going to have to not retaliate and not let up again. So I'm looking forward to it."

The Saints lead the best-of-3 series 1-0, game two is set for 4 p.m. at Eric Coy Arena in Winnipeg.
