Marisa Fraser had seven RBIs to pace a red-hot offence, as the Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Saints scored 12 runs in the first inning and never looked back, routing the Sanford Sabres 19-2 in Manitoba High School Athletics Association Zone 4 fastpitch action Wednesday night in La Salle.

The Saints improved to 2-0 this season and have now scored 29 runs in just nine innings.

“We had good contributions from up and down the lineup which is nice to see,” said Saints coach Cam Asham. “We talked in our pregame chat about how we want to get going the first time through the lineup instead of the second time through like we had on Monday. And we did that scoring a bunch of runs in the first inning.”

After the Saints scored 12 in the top of the first inning, Sanford answered back with two runs in the bottom half. PCI added one more in the second to go up 13-2, then plated six in the fourth. The Saints outhit Sanford 18-3.

Kailee Fraser added three RBIs and Natanish Wall also had one. Kassidy Cunningham picked up the win on the mound, striking out three in 3 1/3 innings.

PCI (2-0) returns to league action next Monday at home against the Carman Cougars at Republic Park. The team is on the field this weekend, however, for the annual Saints Classic Fastpitch Tournament at Republic. It begins Friday morning.
