The Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Saints had one of the biggest wins of their Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League 'B' Division season last night.

They knocked off the first place Sturgeon Heights Huskies 6-2, in a game where PCI showed up for the full 60-minute.

"We really did have a great game," says Saints head coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie. "We put three complete periods in and it was probably, again, one of our best games we've had all season."

The Saints got out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Bailey Grantham, Paige Shwaluk and Morgan Parynuik. "They cut the lead to 3-2 by the end of the first but after that, it was all us," boasts Clark-Gillespie. "Tryniti Mercier got our only goal in the second period to increase the lead to 4-2. In the third period, Parynuik picked up her second of the night, and our scoring was rounded out on the powerplay by Kiera Shwaluk."

Clark-Gillespie adds they weren't happy with their performance Monday night, and with the season winding down, wins are very important. "You don't want to be having those lacklustre games where you're just doing enough to win. So it was nice to see them respond with a great effort here."

The (15-4) Saints now sit one point back of (15-3-1) Sturgeon Heights in second place. They both have three games left in February.
