The PCI Saints shut out Fort Richmond Collegiate 3-0 in Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey at the PCU Centre Monday evening.

Bailey Grantham scored the final goal of the night in the second period, but the Saints really didn't pour on the pressure until the 3rd. "We positionally were just not very good in the first two periods," says Head coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie. "We were too close together and just kind of puck-mesmerized a little bit, we talked about changing that up in the third, and positionally we were a lot better in the final frame and it was good to see."

Kiera and Paige Shwaluk also scored in the Saints' victory. Clark-Gillespie says they've got an incredible amount of skill throughout the lineup, but they still look lost at times on the ice.

Paige Shwaluk had a goal on the night. She whipped this one right of the FRC keeper's mask and didn't miss by much.

"Things like when we have the puck and our wingers aren't staying wide, and they're coming into the middle and getting in the way, and they're not an option to pass to so we have no real offensive attack. The girls need to practice and learn a little bit more what to do without the puck. They get stuck watching and they coast."

Goaltender Morgan Klassen picked up another shutout between the pipes. She's 5-2 this season with 3 shutouts, fellow keeper Haley Swidnicki is also 5-2 with 1 shutout. The Saints are now 9-3 this season tied for fourth place with two other teams.

League Leader

Bailey Grantham ended the night with two points (1G,1A) bringing her to 32 points on the season, moving her into the top spot in the entire WWHSHL through 3 divisions. "I really wouldn't be in this position without me teammates," Grantham laughs, then gives her thoughts on how things have been going for her club this season.

Grantham lets a shot go from the point in the third period. She had a goal and an assist.

"I think it's been going well. We're learning to use each other more, it's not individual play we're more of a team. We need to get open and not run into each other, spread out and use each other."

The Saints next Challenge is Thursday when they host first place Springfield at the BDO Centre.
