The PCI Saints couldn't hold their 3rd period lead over the CJS Olympiens yesterday, and ended up falling 3-2 in Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League action at the PCU Centre.

The Saints gained an early lead thanks to a goal from Bailey Grantham. CJS seemed stunned by the explosive start from the Saints, and were never really able to get any offense going in the period.

The Saints increased their lead to 2 when Maegan Inman followed up on her own rebound to bang one in. A late powerplay slip up by the Saints was costly though, as the Olympiens scored a shorthanded goal to cut the lead to 1.

PCI struggled in the third, as they seemed to lack the endurance to keep up with the top spot Olympiens. CJS was able to tie the game at two on a powerplay, then added another goal shortly after to take the lead. The Saints gave it their all in the final minutes, but even with the net empty, couldn't find the equalizer.

Saints' goalie Haeley Swidnicki made 17 saves over the course of the night. She talks about her night between the pipes, and her team's performance.

"I don't know, a lot of the goals they scored on me were high blocker, which is my weak side. Defensively I thought we could've played a little better as well too, to keep the puck away. We've been working a lot in practice with certain things, and I thought it really paid off in this game."

The Saints are back at it again today as they face Shaftesbury this afternoon. Saints' Head Coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie sets up the game.

"Were playing Shaftesbury, who's ahead of us in the standings and are playing really, really well tonight. They're probably the biggest team on a roll right now heading into playoffs. It's going to be a big game, we've beat them once this year and then they've beat us once -- I think to start this four game losing streak we lost to the -- so we're hoping to break this skid because we don't want to be headed into playoffs on the losing end of everything."

Saints and Shaftesbury go at 3:45 in Winnipeg.
