It's Provincial Championship time in the world of Minor Hockey.

The Portage PeeWee AA Terriers are hosting this year's Peewee Rural AA Provincials at the PCU Centre in Portage la Prairie. Portage Minor Hockey Association's President Peter Fedak they've hosted a few tournaments this year, and a ready for their final one of the season.

"We did have a lot of home tournaments. We've had Novice, Atom, PeeWee and Bantam already, that do draw a lot of people and families into the town. They fill up the hotels, they use the pool at the PCU Centre, as well Friday is the first Terriers playoff game so they'll get to go see that. So it's a great chance for Portage to showcase itself, and the PCU Centre."

Fedak says besides the PeeWee Terriers, 9 other teams will be making their way to Portage. Teams from Morden, Macdonald, Steinbach, Winkler, Souris, Flin Flon, Lorette, Springfield and Thompson all won their way into the tournament. Fedak says hockey is just a small part of the experience for the players.

"For our teams, when they go away to other cities and the hotels, hockey is the reason -- but for the kids -- they're excited about the pool in the hotel, they're excited about the other kids they're going to see around the rink, a new place, new restaurants. That's all the family, and experience that they'll get out of provincials."

The PeeWee Terriers open their tournament at noon today against Macdonald. The Opening Ceremonies for the tournament will be at 6 p.m. before the Terriers' game at the PCU Centre, and all the players will get to experience the game after.
