A 7th inning defensive collapse cost the Portage Padres last night, as they fell 3-1 to Carberry in Game 3 of their 4 point series.

The Padres were leading 1-0 heading into the final inning, with Dustin Donald pitching all 7 innings. An unfortunate error at first led to Carberry loading the bases in the top of the 7th, and another error in the outfield produced the game-winning triple. Padres' first baseman Tyler Butler says they really let Donald down offensively.

"He pitched unbelievable. He did what we needed him to do to win, and we just didn't help him out offensively. It was just a bad inning, and that's the way it happens. You don't usually win games when you score one run."

Donald gave up 0 runs heading into the 7th inning.

The Padres couldn't seem to find any consistency with their bats. Butler says they went up a good pitcher tonight, and couldn't settle in.

"We just couldn't string together hits. Maybe half a dozen hits, 8 hits, but just not together. Creasy threw well he never walked anybody, it's just the way it goes I guess."

The Padres and Royals now face a game 4 situation, and being tied at 4 points, the series could be stretched out even further. Butler discusses the possibility of another long series.

"We're not tying. We've got to win. We'll have our ace ready, and I'm sure they'll have someone as well."

Game 4 is Wednesday in Carberry.
