The Portage Islanders fell 4-2 to the Winkler Royals in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League action at the PCU Centre tonight.

The Islanders jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Anders Strome, but the Royals quickly tied it up just a minute and 13 seconds later. Islanders' Landon Thompson regained their 1 goal lead -- but it was short lived -- as the Royals tied things up just over a minute after. Halfway through a 2-2 second period, the Royals added 2 more only a few minutes apart, which proved to be the difference maker.

The Islanders tried throwing everything on net, but the bounces just weren't there. Even with the net empty, and a flurry of chances within 3 minutes, nothing would squeak by the Royals' netminder.

Islanders' forward Arin Rintoul talks about missed opportunities.

"Well that goalie had a good game, and they wouldn't give us anything. We were all over them, but couldn't get any quality chances to bury them I guess. We missed on a few good opportunities too, I think I missed on about 10 good opportunities myself I think."

The Islanders have a shot at redemption this week, as they host Royals again in their next match Saturday night.
