Redskins 5 Maroons 2 

The Morden Redskins saw five different goal scorers in a 5-2 win over the Altona Maroons Saturday night in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League (SEMHL)playoff action. Chris Reimer and Blake Hartry tallied for the defending SEMHL champion Redskins in the first period, while Angus Klassen busted down on a short handed breakaway and beat Morden's Reed Peters to make it 2-1 after twenty minutes of play. Jay Fehr made it 3-1 for Morden in the second, but shortly after Klassen netted his second of the game to once again bring the Maroons within one. Clint Olson restored the Redskins two goal lead before the middle period was over. Tyler Groening capitalized on an empty Altona net with just over a minute left to put the game out of reach for the Maroons. Both Morden's Peters and Maroons Jayme Janzen made 30 saves each in the game for their respective teams.  The series shifts back to Altona for Game 3 and will be played Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.

Islanders 5 Beavers 2

Tanner Waldvogel had a four point night as the Portage Islanders took game two of their best-of-seven semifinal series 5-2 over the Beavers in Carman. Mark Owen was able to beat Jesse Deckert, who made 41 saves between the pipes for Portage, which was the lone goal of the opening period. After going down 1-0 the Islanders saw three unanswered goals from Anders Strome, Waldvogel, and Chris Reykdal. Brett Chartier brought the Beavers within one, but Landon Thompson, and Waldvogel (EN) replied for the Islanders, who now own a 2-0 series lead as the series shifts back to Portage for the next two games. Steve Christie made 28 saves for the Beavers. The two teams will play game three in Portage Tuesday, with puck drop at 8:45 p.m.
