The Portage Terriers made a trade to end their MJHL exhibition season yesterday.

The Dogs traded the rights of 17-year-old forward Winnipeg native Kyle Wiltshire to the OCN Blizzard for 17-year-old defenceman Nicholas Doyle.

Doyle is also a Winnipeg native who played last season for the Omaha AAA Lancers 16U team in the North American Prospects Hockey League. He notched 3 goals and 20 assists last season, and Terriers' assistant coach Paul Harland says he's a great puck moving defenseman.

"That's one of the reasons why we wanted to acquire him was because we thought he would be able to fit in and help our back-end with puck movement. I think that would be a big part of what we're looking for to start the season."

Harland says Doyle will have to crack the line-up like any other player trying out, but he's heard great things from the scouting department.

"We'll bring him in and he'll have every opportunity to see how he fits in, but all of our sources tell us that he should be able to step in and play for us. So he'll get every opportunity to do that."

Terriers' head coach Blake Spiller adds Doyle was a 3rd round pick for Medicine Hat in the WHL, and he has a great ability to make that first pass.

The Terriers open the MJHL regular season on Friday, in Virden.
