Portage Thunder Ringette is set to host a couple of provincial championships in the new year at the PCU Centre.

The organization is coming off a pretty successful season, including two teams appearing at the 2015 Provincials. Media Liaison Tracy Vanstone gives the details.

"We had our U-16 and U-19 compete in Provincials. The U-16 team didn't do as well as they anticipated, but overall I think that both teams had a fair showing."

Vanstone says the numbers seem to fluctuate every year, but nothing too excessive.

"Overall our club is very happy with the way this season has started, and we're at the midway point and we're down a little bit, down about 20. You see it in waves, it'll come and increase some years, and decrease lately, but it remains fairly constant in Portage."

Vanstone's looking forward to 2016, and lists a few of the tournaments they'll be attending.

"Portage Ringette is famous for always heading to Regina in January. So there are 3 teams going to Regina, there's some going the first weekend back from schools. Then there's another couple teams heading to Regina a couple weeks later. We look forward to that, and we also look forward to hosting Provincials in the New Year in March. So we'll host the U-16 and U-19 Provincials."

The Portage Thunder Ringette will host the Provincial Championships in March of 2016.
