Portage Thunder Ringette U-19 Forward Morgan Van Deynze is this year's recipient of the Manitoba Ringette Association and High Five Incorporated's Scholarship.

Van Deynze was awarded $750 for her ability and dedication to the sport, and her club. Van Deynze says she had no idea until her boss had brought it up.

"She sent me an email that said, 'are you coming to this banquet, we need to know yes or no to save you a table in regards to your scholarship.' I was like, 'I didn't get an email regarding that, can you please send it to me' so it was pretty funny that way."

Van Deynze says nothing compares to her time with the Portage Thunder.

"Playing ringette is the best thing I've ever done. We do the math, and it's a little shaky, but it's been about 11 years. So I've been skating with the same group of girls for 8, and then give or take a few others, but it's just the most fun in the world because you have teammates and friends for life."

Van Deynze is heading to the University of Manitoba for Year 1 classes, but is leaning toward actuarial sciences or accounting. She doesn't know if she'll be returning to the Portage Thunder, but she does plan to continue on with the sport whether it be playing, or coaching.
