It's Portage Terriers Day in Portage la Prairie.

It's the second celebration after Mayor Irvine Ferris officially signed a proclamation making May 20th Portage Terrier Day after the Dogs won the RBC Cup in 2015.

"Two years ago we had the best hockey team in the entire country," boasts Ferris. "It was an amazing time, and certainly amazing for us that remember the last time they won the national championship, which was a long time ago. Since then this team has exceeded everyone's expectations. At the time of the RBC Cup, people were saying 'don't expect too much next year, it'll be a year of rebuilding because their losing so many players' and we know what they went on to do last year."

Ferris says this year they weren't even supposed to make it out of the first round of the playoffs."

"People said they weren't supposed to beat Selkirk, they weren't supposed to beat Steinbach, the weren't supposed to beat OCN, and we know what they did. They were the top team in the province again, and they've had two outstanding years since 2015."

Ferris finished by saying the Portage Terriers really are one of the crown jewels of the city, and the community has no trouble rallying around them every year. Find all the information about the proclamation signing here.
