The Portage Judo Club hosted their home tournament today at the BDO Centre in Portage la Prairie. Portage Judo Club Coach Brian Case says the event was a success.

"I thought it was excellent. This was the first time we tried it at the BDO and it was a great area for it. Everybody had lots of room and they could see. The facilities were second to none. We had a lot of compliments on it. We also had a lot of younger fighters. In the first two age groups we had over 60 competitors where as last year we only had 43. That's great to see because it bodes well for the sport coming up.

Case notes that the tournament moved at a much faster pace than usual meaning he wasn't able to take in every fight, noting he heard their fighters did exceptionally well.

"I think everybody that competed from Portage did very well today. There are a few highlights, Natasha Burton got two gold's but she does very well for us all of the time."

He notes there were around 150 fighters competing in the tournament, adding more details and results from the event will be released as soon as possible.
