The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is in Portage la Prairie this weekend.

It's the first time the tour has made a stop at the Portage Golf Club. Junior golfers from across the province are in town competing, with some even coming from Saskatchewan for the action.

"We love being out in rural places, especially here in Portage. The golf course here is really good for kids, it's a fun track to play, and it's close to Saskatchewan so we've got seven or eight kids from there here to play. We're really happy to be here for a great weekend," says Ed Boge, coordinator for the Maple Leaf Junior Tour in Manitoba.

"It's a great event for young golfers," adds Boge. "It's not ultra-competitive, it's more about the kids learning the game and developing their competitive side here, but having a lot of fun too. It's a two round tournament, players are grouped by ages from ages 10-20."

Boge adds there are a lot of good sponsors on board and the golfers will all be leaving with prizes at the end.
