The Portage Golf Club handed out some of their junior awards yesterday afternoon.

CPGA Club Professional Brad Young outlines the details.

"We presented two young junior golfers two separate awards. Owen Gillespie received the Pro's Choice Award which is picked by myself. Owen showed great dedication over the last year, and he's over there night and day, and looking to make himself a better person on and off the course. As well Carson Inman, he was our Most Improved Golfer last year. He's over there night and day as well, and I think Carson's going to be a kid that we'll hear a lot about in the future."

12-year-old Inman talks about how it felt to receive the Most Improved Award.

"I'm glad! I golf there almost every day, and I'm surprised that they came to my school when I was in class."

Grade 9 golfer Owen Gillespie was shocked when presented with the Pro's Choice Award.

Young and Gillespie

"Oh, it's out of the blue here... I never thought this would happen, just didn't know about it. It was a good surprise!"

Gillespie says golf is basically his life because it's the most fun game there is, and he plans to keep playing as long as he can.

Young says both golfers were very deserving of the awards.
