The Portage Curling Club's Junior High League Champions were crowned this week.

Grade 7 Yellowquill School students Carter Moorehouse, Ashton Hlady, Asher Moorhouse, and Layne Rands won the Junior High League Championship. They also took home the Tuesday Night League Championship as well. Grade 8 Arthur Meighen students Jared Verhoeven, Ryan Botterill, Reegan Vanstone and Colby Irwin were the Monday League Champions.

"We're pretty proud of ourselves," says Skip Carter Moorehouse. "We did really good, and we curled a lot better in the playoffs than in the regular season, even though we won all our games."

"We had a pretty good season," says Monday Champion Jared Verhoeven. "This year we did great through the regular season, then we lost our first game in the playoffs. It was a page playoff so we won, and then won again for the Monday night championship. We won the Monday league last year but I think we curled better this season."

Moorehouse and Verhoeven both commented on how much they enjoy curling at the Portage Curling Club.

"They've got a really great facility," says Moorehouse. "I really enjoy curling right here in Portage."

"There are eight sheets which is good because you can get a lot of games in. The ice is pretty top notch all the time, and the people that work there are just really nice. They're really good to just chat with while you're there."

Moorehouse is looking forward to defending his title next year as a Grade 8 student at Yellowquill. Verhoeven's moving on to Grade 9 at Portage Collegiate and plans to continue curling there.
