The Portage Cup wrapped up tonight at the PCU Centre in Portage la Prairie.

The spring hockey tournament drew in 23 teams for the weekends' action, and Tournament Organizing Committee Member Shane Moffat was thrilled with how the event went.

The Brandon Ice Bandits took home the title in the '09 division, after knocking off Parkland 5-2. Bandits' Head Coach Blaire Champagne was impressed with their performance at their first ever Portage Cup.

"Everybody had fun this weekend, that's what we were here for, and it's kind of the icing on the cake getting to win it all. It was a good weekend, everybody worked hard. This was the first weekend that we actually played real games together as a group, so it went great. (Portage Cup) did a fantastic job, they're organized, on time, they take care of every body. I'm definitely coming back next time."

The Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Norman Miners 8-6 in the '07 division. Wheat Kings' Head Coach Darcy Simard says they all worked together to win the trophy.

"The boys played really well together. They all came together to work really hard every game. We have 3 lines and 6 D, and every body contributed in every single game. Our goalies came up big when it counted, and it was a good team effort."

In the '05 division, the Eastman crush took home their 3rd Portage Cup title in as many years thanks to a 3-2 win over the Interlake Ice Hogs. The Crush won last year's championship, and the previous year as the Eastman Selects. Crush's Head Coach Dave Wiebe gives his thoughts on the weekend.

"Good effort again, exactly the same team as last year. The same exact team, and the same result, so it was excellent. Fantastic tournament, excellent job by both Portage and Shane Moffat running this tournament. Absolutely fabulous, it's been great every year."
