The Portage Cobras Soccer Club's Indoor Soccer Program will continue this winter in Portage la Prairie.

Coordinator Chad Green says the program filled up quick last year, and is very close to full again this season. He explains there really isn't much travel involved.

"This program that we run is all in Portage, and it's all geared toward developing the kids' skills through the winter and just having fun. We utilize Yellowquill School on Wednesday's and play out of Southport Saturday's."

Green says a lot of players looking to keep going through the winter attend, as well as kids out just to have fun.

"Wednesday night's it all training, so developing skills. Then Saturday morning it's just scrimmage and have fun, and keep the kids active more-or-less. The kids love it, it's somewhere they can go, they can run, and it's an active sport. That's why I think it's so popular."

Green's tossed the idea of having an indoor complex built in Portage with other soccer coaches in the area. He says it would benefit a wide variety of teams in Portage, but it would have to be affordable.

"I think it could be utilized -- because it wouldn't just be soccer -- football could get in, lacrosse could get in to train, baseball could train. The downfall to an indoor facility -- from my prospective -- would be depending on what the cost is to rent the field."
