The Portage Golf Club's Club Championship kicks off today at the Portage Golf Club.

CPGA Club Pro Brad Young says it's a free tournament for members.

"We usually get a lot of men, women, senior men, and juniors. It's always a good event that we try to encourage (members) to come and play. It's free to enter, and we give out a lot of prizes so it's usually a lot of fun."

Brad says it's a lot of fun because you aren't golfing with strangers.

"They play 18-holes Saturday and Sunday. The first day they can pick who they want to play with, then all the scores determine how you play Sunday, and usually all the players that play in it have a lot of fun."

The Championship wraps up Sunday at around 5 p.m.

There's also the Manitoba Rural Golf Championship at the Teulon Golf Club that gets underway today as well.
