The Portage Blaze capped off an excellent indoor season with their highest finish ever, ending the season with a 1-1 tie against Titans to take 2nd place in Division 1 with a record of 9 wins, 5 ties and 4 losses. Earlier in the night, the Classics captured the division title with a 2-0 win over Southeast Shooters, so that set up the race for 2nd place between the Blaze and Titans.

Both teams came out flying in this game, and the quick pace lasted all game as Titans needed a win to finish in 2nd and the Blaze could take 2nd with a win or tie. Despite the fast pace, the game was very defensive minded and the teams went into the half time break tied 0-0. The best scoring chance in the half came when an unmarked Titans forward hammered a shot off of the centre of the crossbar to keep the game scoreless. Keeper Connor Forzley kept the Titans off the board with two crucial diving saves.

In the 2nd half the Blaze were awarded a penalty kick 5 minutes in when Miranda Lamb was tripped just inside the penalty area. Lamb took the penalty kick and blasted a left footed shot with authority to the upper right corner to put the Blaze up and put her 3rd in goal scoring in the division with 10 goals.

With 12 minutes left, the Titans tied the game on a tough miscue which saw a clearance attempt by keeper Connor Forzley bounce off of a Blaze defender and back into the net. After that goal, keeper Forzley and the Blaze defenders were much more careful with clearing chances away from the net and the Titans were not able to get much closer to scoring the rest of the game.

At the final whistle, the tie was enough to put the Blaze in 2nd place to conclude a very successful season. Forward Leanne Scharikow also won the scoring title with 14 goals on the season.

The Blaze will now take a few weeks off to rest up for outdoor practices with the outdoor season slated to start the first week of May.
