Portage Minor Hockey's all set for the upcoming hockey season.

PMHA Public Relations Director Julia Green says the online registration went great this year. She says they've got some new members, and they could be getting a few more before the start of the season.

"We have pretty good numbers. We're looking like we have 35 new registrations. We have 1 bantam team, 4 Pee-Wee teams, 3 Atom, 4 Novice, and 3 or 4 Squirt teams. There's always a few because another organization is low on numbers."

Green says Hockey Manitoba has implemented half-ice-practices this year to maximize young players' development, but they've been running them for a couple of seasons now. She adds development was something brought up at their AGM, and each team should be getting an extra one or two practices this year.

"Parents were asking for more ice time, so we're trying to be more efficient in our ice management systems and make sure we're maximizing the amount of ice that we're giving our members."

The Double-A and Bantam teams use the entire ice surface for practices, but they do cover the costs in registration. Green says development camps are underway and the season will begin in early October.
