The Portage Terriers' 31 game winning streak came to an end last night as they fell to the Steinbach Pistons 6-2. The Pistons came out flying on home ice in the first period and scored their first goal since the first period of game 1. It was the first lead of the series for the Pistons.

The Terriers came out firing in the second period trying to tie it back up. Steinbach would score their second though when Daniel Taillefer made a nice deflection on a point shot to beat Nathan Park. Bradley Schoonbaert would score seconds later for the Pistons tucking it in at the side. Frustration would start to show for Portage as they took 6 minor penalties in the frame.

Portage continued taking penalties in the third and Steinbach put home two power play goals to make it 5-0. After the 5th Nathan Park's night was done. He stopped 30 of 35 shots. Portage started to show life when Chase Brakel tipped in a short handed goal with 8:40 left to play. Jeremey Leipsic would bring the Terriers to within 3 after a nice deke 1:17 later. Tyler Penner squelched any hope of a Terrier comeback with a snipe off the post and in.

Terriers' Head Coach Blake Spiller wasn't too happy with his team's performance.

"I thought we were undisciplined at times, I thought that it was a little bit tough on us, just the way it went here tonight. It was one of those games where they're playing for their playoff lives here, in their own barn, and they've got a veteran group here."

He adds, "I thought their team played really well here. The score probably tells it how it is, we didn't seem to have that jump you need to in this rink. They played really well in their building."

This was the first Terrier loss since falling in Steinbach January 3rd in a shootout, and the first loss in regulation since December 15th against Winkler.

The Terriers lead the Turnbull cup final 3-1 and will have a chance at the cup on Tuesday in Portage. Puck drop is at 7:30 at the PCU Centre.
