The Portage Phillies 2015 Winnipeg Fastball Season season came to an abrupt end, as they weren't able to finish their playoffs due to weather and league conflicts.

Phillies' shortstop Jay Dewis says it was an anticlimactic end to an okay season.

"I thought our results were just okay last year, it's just unfortunate the way fastball is going locally, it's just too bad we didn't get to finish off our league playoffs. Overall it was okay though, we played lots and had some fun along the way."

Dewis explains fastpitch leagues around Manitoba have been struggling lately.

"I think the big thing -- the big cause of it -- is just the lack of pitching around. You can probably find enough fastpitch players, it's just a matter of finding pitching. We have fun out there, and we have a core group of guys that like to play some tournaments and have some fun together."

Even if the Winnipeg Fastball League starts to dwindle down, Dewis is confident the Phillies will still be playing for years to come.

"I imagine we'll have a similar group next year. We're going to sit down here pretty soon and just discuss some of our options and what our route will be for next year. So we're looking forward to getting going as well."

The Winnipeg Fastball League will start in May, but the Phillies may enter a tournament or two before then.
