The Winnipeg Woman's High School Hockey League handed out its year end hardware Tuesday night and for the first time ever, a PCI Saints player was a winner. Team Captain Kaeley Simpson not only won the Sportswoman of the year but was one of four graduating players from the league to take home a scholarship to be used towards University. Dozens of nominations were put forth with the criteria being players who have excelled in hockey competition while maintaining a high level of academic standing and community service. Simpson plans on attending the University of Manitoba in the fall.

The Saints hockey program has made some big strides in the past few years and this season the team moved back into the A division to compete against the best in the city. The team went 12-8-2 in the regular season before losing out to the eventual champions, College Jean-Sauve in the semi-finals.

If all of the eligible players return next fall the team could be a powerhouse, only 5 of the 19 players are graduating. That includes Simpson who says the awards were bittersweet. "Although it is nice to win, it is also sad that I have to say good-bye to such awesome teammates after graduation. High School Hockey has been a great option for me"

The five graduating Saints players this year are Dara Maly, Morgan Miller, Katie McCartney, Sam Turner and Simpson.

The league as a whole has also been growing with over twenty teams from Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
