Portage Collegiate Institute's Grade 12 runner Hailee Morisseau's heading to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay this fall. She's been added to the Thunderwolves' 2017 Cross Country/Track Program after applying in 2016.

"I filled out a recruit form because I was kind of interested in the schooling there," says Morisseau. "They contacted me in November and I went out there in December to visit the school and got to meet the team."

Morisseau's been steadily increasing her placing at events over the years. Last year she was the Manitoba Summer Games Triathlon Champion in the girls 16 to 17 age group, she also finished 4th at the Manitoba Provincial Cross Country Running Championships last fall. She finished fifth the previous year and explains why she does it.

"I really enjoy triathlon, the running is probably my favourite part and I'm really happy to be continuing it. I'm also with the Junk Yard Dogs group in Portage so I do some running training there but most of my training is independent."

Morisseau also finished fourth in the 3000 meters a Track and Field Provincials. She's looking forward to attending Lakewood in the fall.

"I'm not too sure what I'm going to do class wise. I'm going to take psychology while I'm there but I'm not set on a career choice yet. I really do love the sport, and I work hard at it too. When you do something you enjoy doing you do a lot of it."

She's also a multi-sport athlete who competes in ice hockey during the winter, all while maintaining a 90-plus average in her schooling.
