The PCI Trojans and Saints are on the diamond today.
In Zone 4 Baseball the PCI Trojans' home opener is today against Mennonite Collegiate Institute at Rotary Republic Park. The Trojans are coming off a very successful weekend where they went 3-0 to capture the championship at a tournament in Selkirk. Trojans' Head Coach Jay Dewis wants to see their consistency carry over from the weekend.
"We hope so. The boys played a good team defense, made the routine plays, and I thought our pitchers did a good job as well attacking the zone and with their commands. Hopefully we can continue that going back into our league."
Game 1 between the Trojans and Blues goes at 4:15 at Rotary Republic Park.
The Saints are on the road to face Garden Valley today in Zone 4 Fastpitch. PCI's the returning provincial champions, and are 1-0 this season after dropping W C Miller 5-2 in Altona last week. Saints' Grade 12 Sam Turner feels they'll be a top team in the province.
"Not to sound cocky, but confident, we didn't lose a whole lot. We lost a few players, but we filled some spots. We got a few fast grade nines, I think that's going to be huge for base running -- the Shwaluks are so quick -- I think we have a good shot at it this year again."
Turner outlines what they need to tighten up to ensure a victory in Winkler.
"Our bats weren't too great the other day, like we only won 5-2, but I think once we get in the swing of things -- it just takes a while to get going -- once our bats get going I think we'll be good. So just offense a little bit."
The Saints and Zodiacs go at 4:15 in Winkler.
