The Portage Padres won 13-11 over the Austin A's last night in the Santa Clara Baseball League.

The A's got out front thanks to a 2-run home run from Jason Brooks. Portage recovered though, thanks to strong pitching from Andrew Moar. The Padres had a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 5th, and that's when things got a little crazy. Padres' Rod McLeod explains.

"In the bottom of 5 we gave up 3, we were up 4-2 and we gave up 3. And then in the top of 6 we got 7 and they got 5 in the bottom of the 6th. A lot of big hits for both teams -- and on our side -- Derek Bowman had a grand slam to help us in the top of the 6th inning."

The score was 11-10 Portage at the start of the 7th inning. Portage manage to add a couple of more runs to hold off the A's. McLeod says they were lucky to come out with a win.

"I felt like tonight, we really escaped. (Austin) has a lot of good young players on their team. They hit the ball well, they through 2 young players from PCI Teams. They threw well at times, and sometimes defense on both teams could've tightened up."

The Padres are now off until Monday.

There's 3 games in the Santa Clara Baseball League Wednesday.

Plumas is in Neepawa, Carberry visits Austin, and Ebb and Flow hosts Minnedosa. All those games start at 7 p.m.
