A member of Central Plains Capitals female midget team's going to be part of Team Canada at the World Women's Under-18 Championship next month in St. Catherines, Ontario.

Sheridan Oswald joins four other Manitobans on the roster, after being contacted by the team about two weeks ago.

We caught up to her en route to a tournament in Saskatchewan, and Oswald admits she's still trying to process being called.

"Definitely a big shock, and I'm just really excited. I got the call on a school night, so I wasn't expecting it. A bit surprised, but one of the best days of my life."

Oswald says she's been preparing for training camp since she received the call.

"I'm bumping up my training a lot more, trying to stay in shape, so I'm prepared for when I get to Ottawa for the camp, and at St. Catherines. Definitely more cardio on and off the ice, and just trying to keep up my game to the level they expect."

Oswald isn't certain what her role on the team will be, but expects that'll become more clear once she's at training camp. She adds people around her have been enthusiastic and supportive, including some good advice.

"Just to soak in the experience. It's once in a lifetime, so enjoy it. It was always a dream of mine to make Team Canada, but definitely a big shock."

Oswald leaves for Ottawa and training camp December 30th, then the team travels to St. Catherines on January 5th.
