The Ile des Chenes North Stars will play in the 2016 Allan Cup.

The North Stars gave up a pair of late third period goals but held on for a 5-4 victory over the Manitoba Lightning last night in Morden.

Ile des Chenes took the best-of-three Allan Cup qualifier two games to one.

Portage Islanders Tanner Waldvogel and Anders Strome were AP's for the Northstars. Strome, Reid Gow, Mike Rey and Lee Goran also scored for Ile des Chenes.

Jason Frykas had a pair of goals for the Lightning while the rest went to Ken Selby and Matt Gingera. The Islanders Eric Delong was also on the squad.

Waldvogel talks about last night's game.

"It was good to get it done. We definitely didn't make it very easy to get it done. I think we had five penalties in the last ten minutes, so it wasn't the best way to do it, but it's nice that we were able to hold on and get the win."

Waldvogel says it'll be interesting at the Allan Cup.

"I don't really know what to expect. I'm sure it'll be a good time, it'll be some good hockey. You don't get a chance to play on TV very often, so that'll be kind of fun."

The North Stars won the series opener 5-4 on February 28th in Morden.

The Lightning took game two 4-3 in double overtime on March 6th in Ile des Chenes.

The 2016 Allan Cup National Senior "AAA" Hockey Championship will be held April 11th to 16th in Steinbach.

The South East Prairie Thunder are the host team and the defending Allan Cup champions.
