It was two more points for the Terriers last night as they picked up their fifth straight victory. It was a 5-0  home win at the expense of the last place Neepawa Natives and it gives the team a 5 point lead on Swan Valley in the race for top spot in the league.

The first period started a bit slowly for both teams but seven minutes in Reilly Funk scored his 15th of the season to open things up. Defensive play was key as the Terriers held the Natives to only 5 shots in the opening frame.

The Terriers scored the only goal in the second period as well. Scott Mickoski, who started the year with the Terriers, was traded to Neepawa and then re-aquired at the start of the month also scored his 15th of the year to give the Terriers a bit of a cushion.

The third period was all Terriers again. Lane Taylor opened the scoring and then the teams leading scorer Joey Moffat replied with his 15th and 16th of the year. Moffat now has 38 points and is 9th overall in the league. Nine Terriers have at least 10 goals to this point of the season and a balanced attack has been key to their success.

The Terriers held the Natives to 13 shots in the game making for one of the easier shut-outs of Nathan Moore's career. It was his second of the season and he now has an 18-3 record.

Assistant Coach Paul Harland talked about the match.

"I think both teams started off a bit slow," Harland says. "But as the game went along I thought we got better and we controlled the play more in the second period. Then in the third, we had a couple of goals that were really earned and we seemed to take the bite out of them. We were good for stretches in the third we were getting in our zone just trying to get pucks out and pucks deep into their zone. We got some timely goals and that led to us getting the win here tonight."

Harland also notes the Terriers deserve their Christmas break and rest. Saying they are going to come back strong in the new year. The team returns to the ice the weekend of January 5th for a home and home set with Waywayseecapo.
